CCO105 Social Research - End-of-Course Assessment (Video)

*This assignment was done together with the assignments found from these 2 blogposts (1 and 2).

After completing the report and public narrative, we also needed to record a video to state our research findings.

In order to help with the filming of the video, I wrote down the main points from my report and had prepared a script for me to follow whilst filming the video. Initially, I had difficulties remembering the points while filming and had to re-film the video many times. I also felt awkward standing before the camera.

However, after finishing the video, I have learnt to be more confident with myself while speaking to the camera. Therefore, I believe that I will be able to do better for my next video assignment.

CCO105 Social Research - End-of-Course Assessment (Public Narrative)

*This assignment was done together with the assignment found in the previous blogpost.

For this assignment, we were tasked to write a one-page public narrative for our report. Initially, I did not know what was a public narrative, I consulted my lecturer and he explained to me that the public narrative was where I would write about the findings of my research out and it was meant for the public's eye.

After completing my report, I proceeded to write the public narrative. I had difficulties choosing the content as I wasn't sure what information I should put and what should I keep in the report. After choosing the most important parts of reports, I proceeded to summarise my findings from the report into one page for the public narrative.

This assignment has taught me to look at the information that I have, and to select what I needed. It has also taught me summarising skills as I needed to summarise a 2,000 words report into a page. I believe that after completing this assignment, I will be more confident in the future should I be tasked to do the same thing again.

CCO105 Social Research - End-of-Course Assessment (Report)

*This assignment was a follow-up from the assignment in the previous blogpost.

This report was done as a follow up of the Tutor-Marked Assignment (TMA) that I have done previously. In the TMA, I was tasked to write about the research and how I was going to conduct the research. In the assignment, I had to conduct the research and write the the results from the it, and analyse the results.

To conduct the research, I created a form on Google and sent it out to my targeted group of respondent for them to complete. After getting back the results, I was able to start writing my report. I made use of the survey results and analysed them. From there, I was able to address my research question and analysed my findings to give a conclusion to the question.

From conducting this research, I have learnt to conduct a research independently. It was allowed me to acquire skills not only to conduct a research, but also taught me to translate the findings from the research into sense. Therefore, these skills will be able to aid me when I am required to conduct researches again in the future.

CCO105 Social Research - Tutor-Marked Assignment

*This assignment was a continuation from the assignment found in the previous blogpost.

After doing the report as a group, we were tasked to do another report on our own. We had to change at least one of the variables to make it different from what we already had.

I decided to make use of the race of the respondents to help with my social research. I had to change the content of the previous report to suit my new variable. However, this process of writing was easier as I already knew what to write after having done it before. The only difference was that when writing this report, I had to ensure that the research was realistic as we were expected to carry out the research in this report.

From writing this report, I learnt that despite already having done it once, I had to rethink a lot of points in the report as I needed to ensure that the research was realistic and achievable.

CCO105 Social Research - Group-Based Assignment

For this group assignment, we were given a topic in class. The topic we were given was "National Identity". From our topic, we were required to come up with a sub topic, and from there we had to think of a research question. We were required to come up with a report starting how we are going to carry out our research, in it we had to write down things such as who are our respondents, what are our variables, what method are we going to use for our research, etc.

When doing the assignment, we were faced with a lot of confusion. This was due to it being a group assignment, and different people in the group had different thinkings and opinions. Therefore, we spent a lot of time listing down the necessary information. In the end, we managed to come to an agreement of the content of the report. From there on, we split the workload and each person in the group was assigned to complete one section of the report. Afterwards, we sat together and edited the report so as to ensure a smooth flow of content.

After completing the assignment, I learnt about having to work with different people. Especially when my group mates came from different studying backgrounds - with some coming from Polytechnics and some from Junior College. Initially, I had difficulty trying to work with the different style of writing, however, we managed to accommodate with each other's working style and completed the report in the end.

CCO103 Critical Readings - Tutor Marked Assignment

Before attempting this assignment, we were tasked to read a play on Kind Oedipus. We were then tasked to evaluation if the events that took place within the play could be rectified.

Initially when I started on this assignment, I was unable to clearly understand the question and what I was supposed to do. After seeking help from my peers, I managed to understand what the question wanted and therefore was able to start on writing the essay.

To start writing the essay, I first wrote down the main events that happened in the play. From those points, I then analysed the events one by one. I looked at the cause of the event, and then proceeded to write down what I thought could have helped avoid the event from happening. After analysing each event individually, I had all my points and was able to write the essay.

From this assignment, I have learnt that it is important to seek help from others. Additionally, I also found out the benefit of pinning out my thoughts in point forms before writing the essay as this way, I clearly knew my points and what I wanted to write, which enable a smooth essay writing process.
